IN THE BEGINNING
Mark Emmerson was born during the Second World War.
He didn't show promise at school. He failed kindergarten - and it was down hill from there on. Further education was tried in Bermuda, and in England when he was 8 years old (for six years), Bermuda again, and then in Canada. The less said about all this, the better.
Photography discovered him in 1962, and he has been a photographer ever since.
He joined the Bermuda News Bureau, the photographic arm of the then Trade Development Board in 1963, and for the next six years had the good fortune to learn and work with such talented people as Butch Ray, Roland Skinner and the late John Weatherill.
In 1970, Mark left Bermuda to work in Ireland and France. He returned 3 years later, and married Rhona Campbell in 1977, President and Art Director of A.A.C., Bermuda's largest advertising agency. They have three children: Hannah Margaret Campbell Emmerson, age 24, Joshua Gordon Thomas Campbell Emmerson age 20 and Joshua Mark Eric Campbell Emmerson, age 16; all extremely talented artists.
He taught himself the art of Platinum Printing in 1980.
